Their 'religion' was based on the Neters--a group of principles that governed daily life and social interaction. Ma'at was one of these. Archeologists and some Spiritualists think they were 'just principles', like today we honor "Justice" and "Freedom". But the texts treat them as persons [in the legal sense].
There was a clearly defined hierarchy in the culture with slaves at the bottom and the Pharaoh [son of either Horus or Ra] at the top. In some eras, the priests of Amun-Ra were actually higher status than the Pharaoh. Women could hold property and do business. It's not clear if they were required to get their husband's permission first.
But slaves had the right to life, to not be beaten and to be fed. That is even superior to how America was 200 years ago. I personally think their system was superior to ours today as far as how people interacted with each other.
